Instead of waiting for FEMA to send the money, New Orleans officials chose to repopulate the Audubon Aquarium who’s “stock” was decimated by Katrina, in a way that made sense. They went fishing. In various locations, they’ve replaced a lot of what was lost, for 1/6th the cost of going to vendors.
Instead of being thrilled with the use of ingenuity, & financial savings, FEMA has pokered up & said they aren’t paying for it. Because they didn’t follow the red tape procedures.
FEMA would gladly pay $600,000 for the Aquarium to shop on line, & get the replacements their way. (Makes me wonder where FEMA’s cut is in all this.)
This situation is in mediation now, but why is a mediator necessary to make them see reason? But wait, it just came to me. This is the same organization that put people in travel trailers & mobile homes that are loaded with formaldehyde. The same people who’s own attorneys tell upper management not to do any testing on the trailers, because then the clock will start running, & they will have to own up to it.
This is Bush’s FEMA. It’s just like everything else he’s touched. Screwed. To the hilt.
