Terry Barton, the woman who started the Hayman wildfire in ‘02, won’t spend any time in a Colorado jail. She was a Forest Service employee who was burning a “Dear Jane” letter, & started the fire that burned over 137,000 acres of forest, 130 homes, & displaced hundreds of people. She’s spent time in a federal prison in Texas & yesterday was in a state court in Cripple Creek, being “sentenced” to 15 years probation that was pro-rated back to ‘03, 1500 hundred hours of community service to be served in the 4 counties the fire hit, & something like $30 million dollars in restitution. The community service has to be in 100 hours per year for each year she’s on probation. She made a comment yesterday in court that she isn’t asking for forgiveness, she just wants people to get on with their lives. What, so she can try to have a life? Too bad she has to stay here. Not many people want her here. Especially the people who lost second homes that the state or federal government wouldn’t help to rebuild.
Want to stay in the high end hotel suite? Be prepared to pony up $3000.00 a night to stay at the Ritz. Horseshoe shaped, panoramic views of Denver & the mountains, 60″ LCD HD TV, 3000 square feet, 24 hour room service. I don’t think so. That odd shaped suite has more footage than our house!
The car show is in town. They showed a Shelby Cobra which Chris wants. They’re only making 1000 of them, so it’ll be the collectors who snag them. I saw a Lincoln that I liked, but before I could think about the cost, I kept thinking about the rise in my auto insurance premiums. I guess not. 7 coats of paint, one of which has minute bits of ground glass, to really look deep. Oh the horror of parking lot dings! Or the gravel that’s on the roads during the winter. It would displace the motorcycles in the garage, then never leave it. Putting the girls in the back seat would be a no-no with the Scottish leather. I can see the nail holes now. I better stop living in a fantasy world.
Tomorrow we’re supposed to be warm, 65, but with that comes the wind bringing the front that’s supposed to hit on Sunday. Bummer. When they actually show “Windy” on the day, you just know it’s going to blow. Maybe the birds can go out on the front porch, since it’s coming from the west, & the front of the house faces the east. They like going outside. They can chirp at the wild birds all they want to. While it’s warm, Chris needs to tend to his pump in the pond. Leaves are blocking one of the openings, slowing it down. When he does, Ding Dong will be there to help. She loves the pond.
